Cannings reached a low point on Saturday in a six wicket loss to local rivals Wilcot. Batting first on a damp wicket, Cannings fell apart and only Matt Tilley’s score of 49 allowed them to reach some level of respectability. A decent final innings of 15 not out by Rory McQuaid got Cannings to 100 before the final wicket fell.
We started enthusiastically in the field, confident that Wilcot could be kept below triple figures, but the low score gave the opposition batsmen all the time in the world and allowed them to comfortably block their way through, taking runs when they were available. Former Cannings player Shane Bryant carried his bat and hit the winning single to reach a fully deserved 50 not out on what was a very poor day for us.
Next week brings a trip to league leaders Biddestone 3s with Cannings hoping to sort their form out soon.
